Active Weather
This spring has definitely been one of the wettest on record. We have seen over 5 inches of rain at YARA-Grow Regina Community Garden - another 6/10″ today in the already saturated ground - with more rain expected over the next two days. The only good news in the lining of today’s rainbow is that the hail seen in many parts of Regina only kissed the community garden.
If the rain and gophers weren’t a big enough challenge, nature has thrown us another curve ball. A couple of beavers have made their home in the storm channel which is typically dry at this time of the year. Unfortunately, one tree has already been chewed down causing great concern for the newly planted shrubs and trees, part of the Walmart - Evergreen Community Greening Project.
When I first arrived at 3:30 pm, the rain had already created puddles in the paths and many gardens; by the time I left at 5:30 pm several gardens had become a series of connected lakes. Thankfully dedicated Grow Regina volunteers were onsite to drain the pools of water from the pathways. After one final burst, a rainbow appeared with the promise that sunshine would come again!

Thank you to the volunteers who have been busy trenching to drain the water from the north end of the garden.
