    Chomping at the Bit

    Dear Gardeners and Volunteers,

For those of you chomping at the bit to get back to work, good news. Grow Regina has finally reached the top of the list and will be getting the shredding machine Monday morning. Our volunteer crews have gathered all organic waste material, piled it neatly on the east side of the gardens and now we can proceed to shred it and start our composting.

For this final work party of the year we need a commitment from volunteers to cover the time we will be renting the shredder. It is all new to us. We do not know just how fast we can shred all the material we have. Estimates are from one to three days. We will not know until we start on Monday. We need a solid commitment for at least Monday and Tuesday. With a morning and an afternoon shift each day we should be able to get the job done. If we need to go beyond Tuesday, I will let everyone know and we can arrange times later.

For those who have been out and helped pickup the garden waste, you sort of know what to expect. Just a reminder, this is a dirty job. So, dress appropriately. If you have protective earmuffs or plugs, bring them along.

We need a minimum of four people for each shift. We can use more as there is lots of those little tasks like raking and keeping a neat, tidy and safe work area. There is still a couple of small jobs of cleaning up around the garden that should be done before freeze up. Extra volunteers will have work to do.

Please email contact@growregina.ca and let me know if you will out on Monday and or Tuesday. And if you prefer to work a morning shift or the afternoon, or both.
