    Work for Volunteers

    shredder

    State of the gardens

    Dear Gardeners,

We have managed to get much of the fall cleanup completed. It has been a bit muddy, but we managed. Thanks to all that came out and helped. We still need help with the shredding of all the organic waste from the garden. We started today - Oct. 26 - and plan to go every afternoon this week. Will likely need to do it next week, so keep an afternoon or two open for the gardens..

Our plan to rent a larger capacity shredder has been a victim of the weather. The renter ahead of us has been delayed. So we will just move on with our own shredder. We have a few gardeners who have been trained to operate the shredder. Our shredding schedule will be designed around their availability (weather permitting)

The shredding, require some effort - mostly in wrestling wet plant material into the shredder, moving wheelbarrow loads about the garden and raking the shredded material into piles. It is still wet and muddy work. So, proper footwear and work gloves are needed. If you have earmuffs, bring them. The machine is noisy.

For now, if you can help, please let me know the dates you can be available. I will try and co-ordinate the daily work crews and keep you informed of the schedules and any changes which may occur. Please reply to this email with your volunteer dates. We will be starting right away so you can be assigned your days just as soon as you reply.

Thank you from Grow Regina and the Garden Operations Committee

    John Fagan
