No Prairie Dogs Allowed
Most gardeners in Saskatchewan agree that we don’t want gophers in our garden because they dig holes and eat our vegetables, but I think it is important to remind our gardeners of the guidelines concerning the domestic “prairie dogs” that state,
“Pets are not allowed in the garden area under any circumstances, even if on a leash.”
Grow Regina is in the process of having signs installed in the garden to remind gardeners and visitors that dogs are not permitted in the garden. We hope to avoid any misunderstandings with visitors to the park who may be out walking their dogs and on a whim decide to wander through to enjoy the garden.
Many have asked, “Why can we walk our dogs all over the city parks, but we can’t go into the Yara-Grow Regina Community Garden at McLeod Park with our well-behaved dog even on a leash?”
Most people understand that there are safety and health concerns about dogs being in a garden, as well as the potential damage they can cause. We understand that while most pet owners are responsible, there are those that are not!
Please help us to keep Yara-Grow Regina Community Garden a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for gardeners and visitors alike by adhering to this guideline.
